Spain is a leading producer of grapefruit in Europe, the season running from October to May, mainly cultivated in Valencia, Murcia and Andalucia. The most common variety being the sweet, red-fleshed Star Ruby, characterized by its thin skin, high in juice and sugar and low in bitterness.
