Spain – Europe’s largest producer of Avocado
Spain is currently the main producer of avocados in Europe, the majority being cultivated in the region of Andalucia. In Spain various avocado varieties are grown, the most common and commercially important being the Hass avocado. Other avocado varieties are Bacon and Fuerte.

Hass
Nov — May
The most popular variety, ideal for export due to long shelf life. The flesh is creamy, rich in flavour and with a high oil content. The skin is dark, rough and has a pebbly texture.
Fuerte
Oct — Jan
Grown for early -season market. The flesh is mild and less creamy than Hass. The skin is smooth, green and the fruit is pear -shaped.
Bacon
Sep — Dec
Used to supply early Euopean market. The flesh has a mild flavour and lower oil content. The skin is thin, green and smooth.
