Spain – a leading producer of Zucchini

Spain is one of Europe’s leading zucchini exporters, with production heavily concentrated in Almería (greenhouses) and complemented by Murcia, Valencia, and open – field summer crops. It’s a key product in the EU winter vegetable supply chain. Main export season September to April, with reduced summer production mostly for domestic/regional supply. The standard zucchini in export is the dark – green one, other types are light green, yellow and round.

Dark-green zucchini

Most important export type. Dark green skin, uniform shape, mild flavour and firm flesh. Excellent shelf life.

Light green zucchini

Lighter colour, slightly ribbed. Softer texture.

Yellow zucchini

Bright yellow skin, mild flavour, lower volumes.

Round zucchini

Ball-shaped. Niche product, limited export.
